GAD Condemns Violence in El Fasher, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire

The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in El Fasher after reports that RSF militia had taken control of the city.
In a tweet on X on Tuesday, Gebeyehu strongly condemned “all acts of violence against civilians” and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
He stressed that “the suffering of civilians in Sudan must end, and all parties have a moral and legal duty to respect international humanitarian law, protect lives, and ensure unhindered humanitarian access.”
The IGAD Secretary-General also urged regional and international partners to act swiftly to support humanitarian efforts and promote dialogue toward comprehensive and lasting peace in Sudan. He confirmed IGAD’s readiness to back all genuine efforts aimed at ending the fighting and safeguarding civilians.
