AU Delegation Begins Visit to Sudan
The Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development at the African Union Commission (AU), Ambassador Amma Twum-Amoah, arrived in Port Sudan on Friday afternoon, heading a delegation from the African Union (AU).
The delegation will be joined by the Nigerian Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the African Union, who has been assigned by the AU Sub-Committee on Refugees, Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to lead the mission.
The visit aims to assess the humanitarian situation in Sudan and identify related needs.
The Deputy Head of Mission of Sudan to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ambassador El-Hafiz Issa Abdullah, told SUNA that the visit comes in implementation of the directives of the AU Peace and Security Council, noting that it will last for several days. He added that the delegation includes technical experts from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), who will assess medical and health needs, including efforts to combat the dengue fever outbreak.
During the visit, Commissioner, Amma Twum-Amoah, will hold meetings with government officials.
The Deputy Head of Mission of Sudan to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Ambassador El-Hafiz Issa Abdullah, will accompany the delegation.
The Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Idris Ismail, received the delegation upon arrival at Port Sudan Airport.
