Press Statement
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the statements by spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations in which he communicates that Mr. António Guterres is deeply concerned at the announcement by the RSF-the Janjaweed genocidal militia- and its affiliates of a so-called “political agreement” to establish a “government authority” in RSF-controlled areas.
The Secretary-General cautioned that this escalation “risks further entrenching the crisis”. “Preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity remains crucial for the sustainable resolution of the conflict and for achieving long-term stability both within Sudan and across the wider region”, Mr. Guterres stresses. Last week, at the onset of the meetings between the militia and its affiliates, under the sponsorship of the Kenyan presidency, the UN Secretary-General warned that the formation of a parallel government would exacerbate the crisis. His latest statements reaffirm his unequivocal and principled stance on this matter.
The Ministry equally commends the position expressed by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States towards disapproving of any measures that could undermine Sudan’s unity or expose it to division or fragmentation under any pretext or designation. Also worthy of praise are the strong and consistent support expressed by several brotherly nations, including the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Qatar, and the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The Ministry reiterates its call to international and regional organizations, as well as to all nations, to reject the said dangerous course of action followed by the Kenyan presidency, which not only jeopardizes regional peace and security but also constitutes a blatant violation of Sudan’s sovereignty.
