Aspects of cooperation and coordination between Sudan human rights mechanisms discussed

Minister of Justice Dr. Muawia Osman Mohamed Khair has met with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Human Rights, Ms. Ilze Brands Kehris, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, on the sidelines of his participation in the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The two sides discussed opportunities for cooperation and coordination between Sudan and the United Nations in general and human rights mechanisms in particular.
Minister of Justice provided an explanation of the situation in the country and issues related to human rights, particularly the efforts of the judicial authorities aimed at establishing justice and the rule of law, accountability, combating impunity, protecting civilians and confronting violations and abuses of human rights and international humanitarian law.
The Minister also referred to the reopening of courts, prosecution offices and police in the states of Al-Gezira and Khartoum after the expulsion of the rebel militia and its resumption of its work, as well as the restoration of the electronic records of the Ministries of Justice and Interior that were attacked, in addition to establishing an electronic platform to receive lawsuits and not to adhere to the territorial jurisdiction in filing lawsuits. He stressed Sudan's commitment to cooperate with the High Commissioner for Human Rights and to delegate the appointed expert.
The Minister of Justice reviewed the roadmap announced by President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council on arrangements for the interim period after the end of the war. For her part, the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights confirmed the United Nations' desire to work with the Sudanese government, thanking the government for facilitating the entry of the staff of the country office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to Sudan and resuming their work.
She expressed her wishes for the return of stability and peace in Sudan.
