Consultative meeting of Foreign Ministers and Irrigation of Sudan and Egypt convenes in Cairo
The first consultative meeting between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Irrigation and Water Resources of the Republic of Sudan and the Arab Republic of Egypt was held Monday in Cairo.
The meeting discussed water issues related to the Nile Basin on its eastern and southern sides, which concern both countries, and the need to work on strengthening coordination between them in the future to consult on these issues.
The meeting stressed the need to continue cooperation between all Nile Basin countries to address any issues related to the Nile, as it is a common resource and a lifeline for all participating countries, in addition to work on resolving issues pertinent to the Nile in a consensual manner. The meeting underscored importance of resolving any disputes that arise among of countries of Nile Basin in an amicable method, in order to sustain stability and development in its countries.
The meeting concluded with the agreement of the ministers to continue this fruitful mechanism for consultation in the (2+2) format on a regular basis, to maintain a high degree of coordination and mutual understanding between the two countries.
A joint statement was issued at the end of the meeting that included these contents.
