Minister of Minerals Holds Extended Meeting with Mining Security Police to Develop Strategic Plan for Securing the Mining Sector and Combating Smuggling
Minister of Minerals, Nour Al-Daem Taha, held an extended meeting Wednesday with the General Directorate of Mining Security Police, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Hind Siddig Adam, the Director of the Geological Research Authority, Ahmed Haroun Al-Toum, and a number of senior police officials.
At the outset, the Minister welcomed the attendees and affirmed his ministry’s commitment to completing preparations for a comprehensive strategic plan aimed at securing the mining sector and the operating companies, as well as curbing gold smuggling. The plan includes strengthening security coordination and deploying additional forces to support the Mining Security Police and the Minerals Economy Protection Unit.
The Minister stressed the importance of carrying out the assigned tasks efficiently and in full compliance with the legal frameworks governing the protection of mineral resources and the safeguarding of the national economy. For his part, the Director General of the Mining Security Police Directorate, Major General (Police) Salah Al-Din Adam, noted that the Directorate faces major challenges in implementing its programs and plans on the ground, due to the current security and political situation in the country. He affirmed his direct supervision over the joint force formed to carry out field operations.
