Sudan Urges AU and International Bodies to Designate RSF Militia as a Terrorist Organization
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Muawiya Osman Khalid affirmed on Monday that the Government of Sudan is urging the African Union and other international institutions to designate the RSF militia as a terrorist organization, citing grave violations committed with support from its regional sponsor.
The Undersecretary delivered the message during his meeting with African Union Special Envoy on the Prevention of Genocide Mr. Adama Deng, who is currently visiting the country. He welcomed the Special Envoy and provided a detailed briefing on the latest developments, including the recent atrocities committed by the militia in El Fasher. He stressed the necessity of intensifying pressure on the regional sponsor and all entities assisting and arming the militia to compel them to cease their support.
For his part, the Special Envoy expressed deep regret over the suffering endured by the Sudanese people throughout the conflict. He affirmed that, through his role within the African Union, he would work to accelerate efforts to halt the violations and to support Sudan—its official institutions and its people—in reaching a consensus that could lead to ending the war and alleviating humanitarian suffering.
The meeting concluded with both sides emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation and coordination between Sudanese state institutions and the Special Envoy within the framework of his assigned mandate to achieve shared objectives.
