Sudan Welcomes US Secretary of State’s Remarks on the Situation in Sudan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation welcomed the recent statements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the situation in Sudan, describing them as a positive step toward correcting the international perspective on the ongoing war in the country.
Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohy-Eddin Salim told the Sudan News Agency that “calling things by their names and directly accusing the terrorist Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and the mercenaries it employed to commit massacres against innocent civilians along with the possibility of designating it as a terrorist organization paves the way for a fairer international understanding of what is happening in Sudan and clarifies the distinction between a national regular army and an outlaw tribal militia.”
The minister added that Secretary Rubio’s recognition of the militia’s brutality and his call to stop arming it “send a strong message to other countries following the Sudan peace file, especially those that continue to aid the militia by supplying it with weapons or allowing their territories and borders to be used for smuggling arms and mercenaries.” He stressed that “the time has come to hold the Al-Dagalo militia accountable,” noting that “the international community’s delay in stopping the bloodshed of the Sudanese people is no longer acceptable.”
The minister pointed out that the failure to implement relevant UN Security Council resolutions such as Resolution 2736/2024, which calls for allowing humanitarian aid into El-Fashir has worsened the humanitarian disaster there. He urged the international community to act quickly to prevent similar tragedies in the besieged cities of Dilling, Kadugli, and Babanousa.
Regarding the civilians who managed to leave El-Fashir, Minister Salim clarified that it was the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), along with joint and supporting forces, that opened safe routes for their evacuation before carrying out a tactical withdrawal to protect civilian lives and property. He reaffirmed that the Sudanese Armed Forces are exercising their constitutional duty to defend the nation’s land, honor, and innocent civilians, emphasizing that the public’s unity around the army and their flight from areas controlled by the terrorist militia demonstrate strong popular support for the national forces in the “War of Dignity.”
Ambassador Salim renewed his welcome of the US Secretary of State’s remarks, expressing hope that they mark “a genuine beginning for holding the terrorist RSF militia accountable, as well as all those who assisted it whether by supplying weapons, opening their territories to arms and mercenaries, or providing political and media backing at the regional and international levels. He concluded by reaffirming that the Government of Sudan remains open to engagement with the international community to achieve peace, security, and stability, in a manner consistent with the aspirations of the Sudanese people the ultimate arbiters in shaping the nation’s path to lasting peace.
