TSC President Meets Liberian Foreign Minister

President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met today with Liberian Foreign Minister Ms. Sara Beysolow, in the presence of Foreign Minister, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salim. Ambassador Salim said in a press statement that his ministry signed two memoranda of understanding with its Liberian counterpart on political consultations between the two countries and the exemption of visas for diplomatic and special passports. He noted that the Liberian Foreign Minister’s visit is particularly significant as Liberia is a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and has experience in recovering from conflicts similar to Sudan’s, having successfully held four national elections.
Ambassador Salim added that this visit marks the first time a senior African official has landed at Khartoum International Airport, sending a message to all friends and partners that Khartoum is safe and that the government is fully operational and carrying out its duties efficiently. He emphasized that Sudan’s doors are open for all to witness the destruction caused by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against the state and its institutions, which led to the displacement of millions of citizens. He also highlighted that the current stability in Khartoum and the resumption of public services have encouraged citizens to return voluntarily.
The Liberian Foreign Minister expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the warm welcome, noting that she is the first African official to arrive in Khartoum via its airport.
Ms. Beysolow said the signed memoranda of understanding open broad avenues for consultations on various issues between the two countries, and that visa exemptions for diplomatic and special passports will facilitate free travel, strengthening ties between Sudan and Liberia. She added that her meeting with the TSC President addressed the importance of peaceful settlement and dialogue to end the conflict in Sudan, protect civilians, and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need. Ms. Beysolow concluded that she will relay all her observations and findings to the Liberian President to ensure he is fully informed about the situation in Sudan.
