Agar Affirms Government Commitment to Supporting and Facilitating International Health Organizations’ Activities

Vice President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSWC), Malik Agar, reaffirmed the Government of Sudan’s commitment to supporting international civil society organizations operating in the health sector in the country, as well as global and regional programs working in partnership and coordination with the government.
During a meeting at his office today with a delegation from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), headed by its Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sania Nishtar, and attended by Federal Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, Agar pledged to remove all impediments hindering access to children across all states of Sudan.
In a press statement, the Minister of Health said that the global vaccine alliance has been the primary financier of childhood immunization programs in Sudan over the past years. He noted that vaccination coverage increased during the war from less than 40 percent to 80 percent, describing this as a significant achievement. He added that the GAVI delegation’s visit to Sudan aims to support the country’s immunization program and reaffirm its commitment to continuing support for vaccination initiatives.
The Minister further noted that new vaccines have been introduced in Sudan for the first time, including those for malaria and viral hepatitis, adding that the alliance has provided more than $1 billion in support to Sudan over the past 20 years of its operations in the country.
