Sudan Fully Resumes IGAD Membership, Appreciates Organization’s Support for National Sovereignty

The Government of the Republic of Sudan has announced the full resumption of its activities as a member of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), affirming that issues of international peace and security remain among its highest priorities, and that it exerts every effort to maintain stability at both regional and international levels.
The government highlighted that regional cooperation forms the foundation for prospects of international collaboration. This decision comes in line with the positive statement issued by the IGAD Secretariat, in which the organization, through its Executive Secretary, reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to the established frameworks for regional joint action and non-interference in the internal affairs of member states—including full recognition of Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, people, and existing national institutions.
The Sudanese government also expressed its high appreciation for the constructive efforts of His Excellency President Ismail Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti and Chair of the current IGAD term, Mr. Abdoulkader Hussein, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chair of the Ministerial Council, and the organization’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Warqana Qubiho, for supporting regional cooperation and enhancing peace and stability in the region.
