Press Statement

Amidst perplexing international silence, the RSF Janjaweed militia, backed by its regional sponsor, is escalating its campaign of genocide against the majority of Darfur’s population. The terrorist militia has been waging a brutal, ongoing attack on the Zamzam camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs), near El Fasher, for the past two days. The savage attack has gone viral through the militia’s own propaganda, which is so boastful about it.
Having realized the indifference of the international community towards its daily shelling of the camp with heavy artillery since December 2024, the terrorist militia has escalated its criminal aggression against the IDPs with its direct ground attack on Zamzam camp.
Large numbers of IDPs have been slaughtered by the terrorist militia in these attacks. Field reports confirm that the murderers targeted IDPs on an ethnic basis while preventing those fleeing the killing from leaving the camp. This is the same pattern followed by the criminal militia in El Geneina and Ardamata, West Darfur, in June 2023. The terrorist militia burned markets, food and water warehouses, and primary health care points when they were forced to withdraw. As the World Food Programme reported last week, the militia detained food convoys heading to the camp for weeks and then forcibly diverted them. All these acts embody genocidal intent.
Elsewhere in Darfur, reports are emerging of the terrorist militia continuing to commit rape and sexual violence against IDPs in other camps, such as Kalma camp in South Darfur.
The militia’s regional sponsor bears direct responsibility for the ongoing genocide, as satellite images and documented scientific reports have proven that it is the source of the heavy weapons and artillery used against the camp residents over a period of three months.
Moreover, the UN Security Council and Western powers also share responsibility because they remained silent about the militia’s continuous shelling of the camp throughout the past period, in defiance of the Security Council’s decisions to end the siege of El Fasher and stop targeting it militarily. The Western powers stand idle as the regional sponsor of the militia persists in supplying its proxy with whatever is at its disposal to pursue the rampage of genocide against the people of Darfur. Western powers, furthermore, tacitly help the sponsor and the RSF militia use international and regional platforms to brighten its image and wash its hands, which are heavily stained with the blood of the Sudanese people.
