Darfur Region Governor: UAE Behind Sudan War, RSF Merely a Tool
Sudan’s Darfur Region Governor, Minni Arko Minnawi, described the conflict in Sudan as a full-scale aggression orchestrated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), using the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as a proxy and deploying thousands of foreign mercenaries.
Speaking at a press briefing at Sudan’s embassy in Berlin, Minnawi accused the militia of committing war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity, massacres, forced displacement, and sexual violence, including atrocities in El-Fashir, continuing a decades-long record of violence. He called for the RSF militia to be classified as a terrorist organization, warning that ongoing foreign support is driving the conflict and preventing sustainable peace.
Minnawi urged the international community to halt external support, protect civilians, ensure humanitarian access, and insisted that no truce is possible without the militia withdrawing from cities and civilian areas. He criticized the UAE-backed Quad initiative, saying the UAE cannot act as a mediator, while Sudan continues consultations with Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the U.S., and other partners on achieving peace.
