Prime Minister hails UN agencies and international organizations' effective role in supporting urgent response to cholera epidemic
Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris thanked the international organizations and United Nations agencies for their role in supporting the urgent response to the cholera epidemic, by providing medical supplies and intravenous solutions, as well as technical support in the spheres of training, protocols, and implementation of health activities in accordance with scientific methodologies and principles.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister commended the International Coordination Group for Cholera Vaccination (ICG) for its unlimited and continuous support, praising the efforts of the Technical Committee for Cholera Vaccination and the support of the IG, which enabled the country, since October 2023, to secure 16,959,845 doses of cholera vaccine, through which response campaigns were implemented in 39 localities in 11 Sudanese states.
The Prime Minister also extended his sincere thanks to the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom, for his directives to the regional office and the Sudan office to exert greater efforts to ensure the provision of essential medical supplies and support. In this regard, the Ministry of Health explained that these efforts have resulted in the arrival and distribution of large quantities of medical supplies and intravenous solutions, in addition to providing first aid for emergency response and other inputs for treating cholera in accordance with treatment protocols.
