Press Statement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its appreciation to commitment made in the press statement of Mr. Anthony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States, on the occasion of the sixty-eighth anniversary of Sudan’s independence, that the US Government will work to end the conflict in Sudan, “so that in the coming year, the Sudanese people can begin to realize the peace, security, and prosperity they deserve
The Ministry, however, is astonished that the statement reverted to generalized refernces to occurrence of crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, and sexual violence without naming those who committed them, given that the statement by the US Secretary of State on December 6, 2023 categorically held the dissolved “RSF” Militia responsible for these crimes. The same position was later expressed by prominent members of the Congress who condemned the Militia for committing these atrocities. In fact, yesterday’s statement comes while the terrorist Militia is adamantly expanding its criminal activities to new areas, invading villages and small towns, some of which do not even have police stations, as is currently taking place in the state of Al-Gazira. Just a few days ago, the Militia committed a massacre against unarmed civilians in the town of Al-Madina Arab. The toll is more than eleven victims. In addition, the city of Wad Medani has experienced the horrific mass killing on ethnic grounds that the Militia had previously unleashed in Darfur. The Militia has equally implemented its usual methods of terror to forcefully recruit young people and children from Al-Gazira’s rural areas into its ranks. It is to be recalled that when the Militia attacked the city of Wad Medani, the US Permanent Representative at the United Nations had warned that terror would not go unpunished. Furthermore, investigative reports by major international media last week also highlighted the appalling extent to which the Militia has descended in the ethnic massacres it commits, to the extent that even male infants from the tribes it targets are not spared from killing. This a typical case of genocide. It was, therefore, expected that the US Secretary's statement yesterday would touch on that.
The statement, moreover, ignored the mentioning of the militia’s utter disrespect of its obligations under the Jeddah Declaration of Humanitarian Principles signed last May 11, and facilitated by the Saudi Arab Kingdom and the US, which would end human suffering of the Sudanese people and pave the way for a ceasefire if it was fully implemented.
Finally, it is now evident that Sudanese people in the various states of the country have pronounced their position strongly and clearly by firmly associating themselves with the Sudanese Armed Forces and organizing popular resistance formations to defend themselves, their dignity and their sovereignty. It is, therefore, implausible to pursue solutions to the crisis that do not satisfy the Sudanese people’s aspirations for peace, freedom, and independence.
