Meetings of the joint political consultation committee between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan and the Republic of Uganda were held on Monday at the Corinthia Hotel in Khartoum, co- headed by the Undersecretary of Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dafa’alla Al-Haj Ali, and the Undersecretary of the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs..
The two sides discussed the political developments in the two countries, the prospects for political cooperation. and the economic affairs at the bilateral level and the coordination and exchange of support at the regional and international forums.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern and ways to enhance and reactivate the mechanisms of joint action, as well as reactivating the agreements signed between the two countries in all fields of economic, political and cultural cooperation, focusing on the increase of trade exchange and encouraging the joint investments between the two countries.
The two sides, on their capacity as the guarantor of the revitalized peace agreement in South Sudan, discussed ways to enhance the cooperation between them to help the signatory parties of the peace agreement in the Republic of South Sudan achieve sustainable peace and political stability.
The Ugandan side commended the African Union for lifting the freeze on Sudan's membership, especially after signing the framework agreement leading to the formation of a civilian government for the remainder of the transitional period.
The meeting was concluded by the signing of the minutes of the political consultation committee, and agreement of the two sides that the next session will be held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, and its date will be determined in consultation through diplomatic channels.
