The Special Representative for Sudan and Head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Perthes, said that the signing of the framework agreement was the result of a full year’s effort to resolve the political crisis, pointing out that the current stage requires wide-ranging consultations with all components.
During his address, yesterday, at the Republican Palace the signing ceremony of the political framework agreement, Volker asserted that the formation of a credible government is crucial to restoring the state’s prestige. He described the framework agreement as not ideal, but an important step for the civilian democratic path.
Volcker pointed out to the necessity of forming a credible civilian government to face the economic, political and security challenges.
