Khartoum, Dec. 27 (SUNA) – The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Gen. Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, Monday chaired at the Republican Palace a regular meeting of the council. In its meeting, the council decided the start of practical procedures for the upcoming elections, which will lead to consolidating the democratic transition in the country, as well as ensuring the participation of the citizens in choosing an elected government through the ballot boxes at the end of the scheduling prepared by the National Elections Commission, which will begin in early next January and ends in July 2023. The Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and spokesman of the council, Dr. Salma Abdul-Jabbar, explained that the Council heard a full explanation from the commission on the historical legacy of the electoral process in the country. She said council recommended starting electoral awareness through various media, and providing logistical requirements and electoral materials. She said that the council was briefed about a detailed report on the situation in the Darfur region submitted by the council member, Dr. Al-Hadi Idris, who was on a two-week visit to the region. Dr. Salma Transitional Sovereignty Council assured that the meeting of the joint higher council for security arrangements in Darfur states would be held shortly. She pointed out council also directed the concerned authorities to investigate what is being circulated in the media regarding rape incidents in the protests of December 19. MO
