Khartoum, Aug.16 (SUNA) – A two - day conference of Civil Society Role on Sudan’s debts relief held today at Al-Salam Rotana Hotel in Khartoum. Experts from IMF, Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning besides stakeholders are participating in the conference. Friedrich-Ebert Foundation Permanent Representative to Sudan Christine Roehrs said the conference is launched to discuss the civil society vision on Sudan’s debts relief with expert participants from inside and outside the country. She explained that the civil society has demands and its role is required in debts relief process. It is to be noted that Sudan has reached the point required on benefiting from HIPC initiative particularly after it cleared its arrears at international financing institutions. Participants at the conference said that Sudan has a big chance for writing off all its debts. But they argued that is requiring mobilization of all sectors to convince creditors through providing initiatives. They explained that some creditors wanted to see economic development prevailed in country so as to be encouraged of writing off their debts owed to Sudan. AAIF
