Khartoum, Jan. 11 (SUNA) – The Ministry of Finance and the United States have agreed to consolidate the cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture through modern American technologies in Sudan, in cooperation with major American universities,for opening new horizons, especially in the private agricultural investment for added-value and the irrigation technology field to help in the development of the Sudanese agricultural sector. This came during a meeting between the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Hiba Mohamed Ali, at her office Monday with the Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations Food and Agricultural Agencies in Rome, ambassador Cape Tom, in the presence of the acting Undersecretary of Planning, and the US Chargé d'Affaires to Sudan, Brian Shawkan, and Director USAID Mission. Dr. Hiba pointed out that the transitional government is working to develop the agricultural sector, which represents the backbone of the Sudanese economy and the focal point of Sudan renaissance, provided that it shall be developed by introducing modern technology to achieve a real progress in quantity and quality. She indicated that the modernization of the agricultural sector will contribute to providing job opportunities for the youths and benefiting from their energies. On his part, Cape Tom praised Sudan potentialities in the field of agriculture, pointing to the huge natural and human resources in the country. MO
