Sudan participates in AU Summit on Silencing the Guns

Khartoum, Dec.7 (SUNA) – The Acting Foreign Minister, Omar Gamar Edeen haspartuicipated in the 14th AU Emergency Summit on silencing guns which held, yesterday virtually in Johannesburge, capital of South Africa. The minister who participated on behalf of the Prime Minister delivered Sudan statement thanking the President of South Africa, the AU Chairman for hosting the summit. The minister also, lauded the AU Commission Chairman report on the efforts being exerted to silence the guns. The FM, also, reviewed the peace Agreement signed with the Revolutionary Front on last October, adding that the government works for joining the non-signatories to the peace process. “ The the holding of this summit, at this time constitutes an important event for Sudan, as it coincides with the two-year anniversary of the start of the revolution, declaring Sudan's commitment to what was stated in the official declaration on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Organization of African Unity, to end all wars in Sudan” He stressed. The minister appreciated the Republic of South Sudan for sponsoring and hosting the negotiations, reviewing the government’s efforts to implement an integrated strategy for the protection of civilians in Darfur, Blue Nile and South Kordofan prior to safe exit for UNAMID. He pointed out that the transition from the UNAMID to the UNITAMAS proves that Sudan has left behind wars and fighting. The minister stressed the necessity for the implementation of the recommendations included in the report of the AUB Commission Chairman on the AU commitment to support the peace agreements to avoid setbacks.
