Technical Committee of North Darfur and UNAMID to Arrange for UNAMID Exit to be Formed
Al-Fasher, Nov. 30 (SUNA) – North Darfur State and the Joint United Nations and the African Union Mission for Darfur (UNAMID) have agreed on formation of a joint technical committee to consider some issues relating to the transition process and the ways to hand over the military patrols to the police to carry out the mission of securing the civilians. The Wali (governor) of North Darfur State, Hassan Arabi, met Monday in his office with a delegation of UNAMID, head by the Deputy Chairperson of the mission, Kiki Kagu, and discussed the ongoing arrangements for exit of the UNAMID from Darfur on December 31, 2020. The UNAMID Deputy Chairperson of UNAMID said in a press statement that the meeting came as part of the continuous deliberations with the government of North Darfur on the exit of UNAMID and the transfer of the civilians’ protection responsibility to the government. She indicated that the meeting also touched on the projects that the mission is implementing with the state’s government, describing the results of the meeting as good. MO
