Khartoum, Nov. 30 (SUNA) – The Director of the General Administration for Health Emergency and Epidemics Control at the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Tahani Amin, announced that The number of coronavirus suspected cases since the beginning of the pandemic in last March amounted to 33,318, 16,834 of which were positive cases, and that the total deaths amounted to 1252 deaths until yesterday (Sunday) November 29. In fact, the figures seem much bigger than what was monitored and announced by the competent authorities, and anxiety became increasing after the spread of the virus among various groups in the Sudanese society (41% among young people at the age of 20 to 40 years old), contrary to what people have heard in the news as the winter continues to be Known flu season. The infection rates of the virus indicate that the epidemic in this stage has become more deadly and turned into daily accidents that are seen by people after the virus has claimed lives of 1,252 innocent persons, as the Director of the General Administration of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control stated in her speech at SUNA Forum on Monday evening. Dr. Tahani did not forget to mourn those who passed away because of COVID- 19; top of them was the leader of the National Umma Party and Imam of Ansar, Saddiq Al-Mahdi, and a number of people, including medical cadres and competencies. After the announcement of these figures, the people in Sudan were assured that the coronavirus did not disappear, and that the government of the transitional period is still dealing with the large outbreak of the endemic. In her address in SUNA Forum, Dr. Tahani said that "Sudan has been affected by the repercussions of the second wave since end of last October, as the country started to register daily cases with an increasing rate, where the registered cases amounted to 14,461, including 2,925 cases of recovery and 145 cases of death during current November, affirming that these figures were only monitored by reporting health institutions. The Director of the General Administration of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control at the Federal Ministry of Health said that the most affected states were Khartoum (78%), Gezira (14%), and then come the states of Sennar, Nahral-Neil, the Red Sea, the White Nile, Gedarif, Kassala, and North Kordofan. To meet the repercussions of the spread of the virus in the second wave, Dr. Tahani assured the implementation of the response plan for the second wave, where 51 treatment centers were opened in 18 states, including primary and secondary centers according to the epidemiological situation, including 7 primary treatment centers in Khartoum state hospitals (Khartoum, Khartoum North, Omdurman, Ibrahim Malik, Al-Shaab, Al-Naw, Al-Tamayoz, Haj Al-Safi), adding that the secondary treatment centers are in each of (Jabra, Khartoum, and Universal.), and as for the centers in the state of Gezira there are two primary centers and two secondary centers. She said that some treatment centers are working at their maximum capacity and that efforts are continuing from the Federal Ministry of Health, states and the partners. On the level of controls and measures taken by the authorities to confront the pandemic, based on the epidemiological situation and the confrontations of the Health Emergency Committee, Dr. Tahani stressed the need for all sectors of the state and people in the society to fulfill their responsibilities in facing the pandemic, apply the health controls and requirements and follow up on their implementation at all levels, while continuing to suspend studies in universities and schools and ensure the continuity of work at the strategic facilities of the state.
