MOFA4Press Statement

A press release by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), “Doctors Without Borders” yesterday revealed that the Janjaweed militia has been holding the organization's supply trucks containing medicines and therapeutic food supplies destined to El Fasher and Zamzam camp, at Kabkabia town, for 4 weeks now. MSF’s statement, in essance, explains that the Militia is the culprit in the spread of hunger in the Zamzam camp as per the findings of the Famine Review Committee, published on the same day. This said heinous act is a part of the starvation strategy the Militia is carrying out.

Attributing food insecurity to not using a particular border crossing is therefore unfounded. Worse still and in flagrant defiance of the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2736 (2024), June 13, the Militia is continuing its siege of the city of El Fasher, escalating bombing of hospitals, IDPs camps, markets, mosques and public facilities in the city. In the light of the above, a firm international stance towards the Militia and its sponsors is imperative, in order to deter them from pursuing to commit atrocities and flouting international legitimacy.

MOFA4Press Statement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reviewed the Press Release of the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations on Sexual Violence during Conflict dated July 24 July 2024, following her visit to the Sudanese refugee camps in Chad.
The testimonies communicated by the senior UN Official therein corroborate findings of field surveys carried out by human rights organizations and international experts that the Janjaweed militia and its allies continue to commit rape, sexual violence, trafficking in women for sexual exploitation and extorting families of kidnapped women to obtain financial ransoms.
The aforementioned crimes represent one of the worst practices of the known terrorist groups, which invariably target women, vulnerable groups, and civilians in general. The international community therefore has to treat the Militia the same way it treats terrorist groups and transnational organized crime syndicates.
