Khartoum, Sep. 29 (SUNA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sunday summoned the Ambas-sador of Egypt to Sudan, Hussam Eissa, on the issue of the arrested Sudanese student Walid Abdul-Rahman in Cairo and showing him in the media to give confessions about his participa-tion in activities against the Egyptian government. The Undersecretary of the ministry, Ambassador Dr. Siddiq Abdul-Aziz, conveyed to the Egyptian ambassador the concern of the detained student’s family and the government of Sudan and people about the way in which the Egyptian authorities have treated the student and the refuse to allow Sudan Embassy, up to now, to visit him and to provide consular and legal assistance. The undersecretary stressed the need to ensure the safety of the arrested student, give him all his legal rights, avoid media trial for him and to enable the embassy to meet him. He said that Sudan and Egypt are moving ahead to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between them in all fields, therefore, there shall be refrain from the practices that hinder such a cooperation and harm the atmosphere of relations between the two countries. Meanwhile, the Egyptian Ambassador pledged to transfer what was conveyed to him by the undersecretary to the authorities in Egypt, stating that Sudan Embassy to Cairo will be allowed to meet the detained student today. He also promised that the arrested Sudanese student will be treated according to the law, pointing the keenness of his government to preserve the current positive atmosphere in the relations between the two countries.
