Ministry of Agriculture signs two agreements with FAO

Khartoum, June 14 (SUNA) - The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has signed two agree-ments with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for the period from July 2019 to May 2021. The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Babeker Othman signed on behalf of the ministry whereas the FAO Regional Director in Sudan Baba-kia Ahmedou signed for the organization. Othman said, in a press statement, that the two ag-reements came within the framework of technical cooperation, namely, raising the productivi-ty of date palm, updating the value added and value chain. The second agreement also inclu-des water harvesting and will be applied in the state of Gedaref, praising the continuous cooperation with the organization. The FAO Country Director underlined the importance of FAO's framework for identifying the development priorities for cooperation between the Su-danese government and FAO in the fields of agriculture and food security, stressing FAO's support to Sudan in the field of food security.  BH/BH
