President of the Republic of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit received yesterday at his residence in Juba Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) General Shams-Eddin Kabbashi, in the presence of the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Yassin Ibrahim, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Al-Sadiq. The meeting, which was also attended on the part of the Government of South Sudan by Presidential Adviser Tut Gatluak, dealt with bilateral relations between the two countries and enhancing aspects of cooperation and joint coordination on the various fields, as well as consultation on regional issues of common concern. During the meeting, Member of the Sovereignty Council General Kabbashi provided a briefing to President Salva Kiir on the developments of the ongoing political process in the country. Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Al-Sadiq, pointed out in a press statement that the visit of the Member of the Sovereignty Council and his meetings with the leadership of the Republic of South Sudan come within the framework of the efforts of IGAD, whose current session is chaired by Sudan, to establish security, peace and stability in the region and the Republic of South Sudan in particular, by following up implementation of the revitalized peace agreement of South Sudan.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed Sudan's support for the brothers in South Sudan, its follow-up on implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, and its assistance to its parties in overcoming all obstacles and complexities that affect progress of the implementation process.
