The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and chairman of the current session of IGAD, Gen. Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, received in his office Monday the Executive Secretary of the Government Authority for Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu. Gebeyehu explained in a press statement that the meeting came with the aim of consulting and taking directives from the President of the Sovereignty Council and IGAD President on important issues in the region, noting that the meeting dealt with the desertification issues, the return of Eritrea to the organization as well as the situation in the Republic of South Sudan. He said that the meeting was important and fruitful and reached results that will support the efforts of IGAD to solve the issues of the member states. ”Now, I can confirm that the situation of the organization is much better, given the great challenges it faced during the past year, especially the issue of the Sudanese - Ethiopian relations, which have returned to normal after a big tensions, thanks to the efforts of IGAD," he said. He called for coordination, cooperation and concerted efforts between all the IGAD member states to support important issues represented in peace in South Sudan, the drought issue suffered by three member states top of which is Somalia, pointing out that the organization is now working on two tracks: the security and peace and the natural disasters in the region.
