The Executive Secretary of the Inter-Government Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, has pointed to the successes achieved by the IGAD under the during the past three years of Sudan presidency to the IGAD organization. He said in the IGAD speech Wednesday in Mombasa, Kenya, that the IGAD countries were able to successfully hold elections during the period from 2021 - 2022 in five out of seven countries, which included Uganda, Djibouti, Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya.
Gebeyehu said that IGAD was also able to lead the dialogue in Sudan for the transfer power to the civilians through the ongoing political process, which has reached its final stages, calling on the real stakeholders to engage in the ongoing political process. He praised the role of IGAD in ending the border dispute between Sudan and Ethiopia through a meeting that brought together the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan and the Ethiopian Prime Minister. He also commended the implementation of the peace agreement in Southern Sudan State and the progress achieved in the security arrangements. Dr. Gebeyehu referred to the fight against terrorist groups in Somalia and the need for international, continental and regional support for the African Union mission in Somalia.
