Sudan participates in conference of Blue Belt Initiative in Morocco

The Minister of Livestock, Professor Hafez Ibrahim Abd al-Nabi, presented Sudan's speech at the high-level conference on the Blue Belt Initiative under the slogan for scientific, economic and environmental integration for the benefit of the blue economy in Agadir, Morocco. He emphasized that the Blue Belt Initiative launched by the Kingdom of Morocco in 2016 constitutes a unified framework that is suitable for the blue economy and low carbon emissions to protect coastal marine ecosystems and contribute to their mitigation. He affirmed Sudan's commitment to the 2030 Agenda adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and the sustainable development goals, underlined the strategic role played by the ocean economy and aquaculture. He announced support for Agadir Declaration for investment in the blue economy, especially marine fishing, by facilitating technological and social innovation. He pointed out that Sudan is located on a long coast and is considered a leading country in the marine fishing sector, saying: “we are making great efforts to develop the marine farms sector, as we are working to establish a specialized agency in this field for the development of marine aquaculture.” He indicated that the Arab food security initiative launched by Sudan in the year 2013 aims to raise production of fish wealth, to train and qualify cadres in this vital field, and to attract investment in the fisheries sector in Sudan by making a big boom in relation to the preferential environment.
