Sudan, Azerbaijan Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation across Multiple Sectors
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salim, met on Tuesday with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on the sidelines of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors in line with the directives of the leaderships of both countries. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing cooperation in ways that serve mutual interests and promote stability and development.
The Sudanese side praised Azerbaijan’s experience in reconstruction and sustainable development, expressing Sudan’s interest in benefiting from those experiences during the post-war recovery phase.
During the meeting, the foreign minister reviewed the peace initiative presented by Prime Minister Kamil Idris before the United Nations Security Council on December 22, 2025, describing it as the government’s roadmap for ending the war, restoring peace, and stabilizing the country. He also outlined the serious violations committed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against civilians, including attacks on infrastructure and public institutions, obstruction of humanitarian aid, and the use of foreign mercenaries, stressing that the Sudanese Armed Forces continue to fulfill their constitutional duty in defending the country and protecting its sovereignty.
For his part, the Azerbaijani foreign minister stressed the importance of expanding economic cooperation and exploring investment opportunities in various sectors, while also praising Sudan’s support for Azerbaijan in regional and international forums. He further expressed solidarity with the Sudanese people and reiterated his country’s support for efforts aimed at achieving recovery, peace, and development in Sudan.
The two sides agreed on the need to activate existing bilateral agreements, accelerate procedures related to new agreements in investment and higher education, and strengthen coordination and mutual support in regional and international forums on issues of common interest.
