TSC President Meets UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy
President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, met on Wednesday with the United Nations Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, Ramtane Lamamra, in the presence of the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Idris Ismail.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a press statement, "Ramtane Lamamra conveyed to President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council a message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres regarding the UN's role in Sudan, both in peace and war." Ambassador Idris pointed out that TSC President renewed Sudan's confidence in the significant role played by the UN in addressing Sudan's issues, stressing that he will work to support this role to achieve peace, security, and stability. The Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the meeting touched on the overall humanitarian situation, noting that TSC President affirmed that Sudan will spare no effort in assisting the UN in reaching those in need. For his part, Lamamra said that he delivered a message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres to President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, saying that he heard clear answers from President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council on most of the points and questions the international community wishes to explore regarding the future prospects.
The Secretary-General's envoy hoped that security, stability, and comprehensive peace will be achieved in Sudan, and that efforts will be directed toward reconstruction and rehabilitation, providing decent living conditions and essential services to citizens. Ramtane Lamamra affirmed the United Nations' commitment to its mission towards the Sudanese people and state, saying, "The United Nations will continue to work to fulfill its duties in the areas of humanitarian support and efforts to achieve the desired peaceful solution within the framework of the resolutions of the international community, the United Nations Charter, and all relevant conventions."
He added that during his visits to Sudan, he received valuable answers and information, which will be conveyed to the UN Secretary-General and the UN Security Council. He reiterated the United Nations' commitment to standing by Sudan in the service of peace and a better future for the Sudanese state.
