Saudi Ambassador Raises Kingdom's Flag at Saudi Embassy, Announces Several Reconstruction Projects in Khartoum State
Khartoum State Wali (governor) Ahmed Osman Hamza received on Wednesday at the Government Secretariat on Nile Street in Khartoum the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ali bin Hassan Jaafar, and his accompanying delegation. The visit of the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Khartoum came within the framework of inspecting his country's embassy and inaugurating and commencing operations in Khartoum. For his part, the Wali of Khartoum State praised the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the people of the Kingdom for the support and assistance they have provided to the Sudanese people before and after the war, under the supervision of the Ambassador. He added that the ambassador's presence in Khartoum represents a true beginning for the work of the embassies in Khartoum.
The Khartoum State Wali said that, after the defeat of the rebellion, the state has entered a new phase of reconstruction and the removal of war remnants, pledging to move quickly to restore services. The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ali bin Hassan Jaafar, expressed his happiness at returning to Khartoum and the repatriation of citizens and institutions to their headquarters. He said that the Kingdom, both government and people, will continue to support Sudan. This visit aims to inspect the embassy building and carry out rehabilitation operations in preparation for the return and commencement of its duties. The Ambassador announced a new food support project that began on Wednesday with the distribution of 5,000 food baskets to be provided to the state's citizens affected by the war, as well as logistical support, the full rehabilitation of (5) hospital buildings, the provision of medical equipment and supplies to Omdurman and Martyrs Hospitals in Khartoum State, and the provision of orphan care. Furthermore, the Al-Naw Hospital has been supplied with an oxygen plant during the past period, and arrangements are underway to conduct 2,000 eye surgeries and vision examinations at Mecca Eye Hospital.
The Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques said that there is a federal ministerial committee to follow up on these projects and activities to be a good support for the state at this stage, as an extension of the Kingdom's communication with the government and people of brotherly Sudan in such circumstances.
The Ambassador and the Wali of Khartoum State, in the presence of the Executive Director of Khartoum Locality, inspected the embassy headquarters in Khartoum and witnessed the extent of the destruction and looting of the embassy’s vehicles, equipment, and furniture.
The ambassador announced the immediate start of maintenance work and raised the Kingdom’s flag on the embassy’s mast, marking the official move to Khartoum.
