Interior Minister Announces 91% Operational Rate of Police Stations in Khartoum
Minister of Interior Lt. Gen. (Police) Khalil Pasha Sayreen has revealed sustained directives for the immediate deployment of police forces to all liberated locations in Khartoum State to secure and normalize life for citizens returning to Khartoum. During the 23rd regular forum of the Ministry of Culture and Information, organized by the Sudan News Agency, the Minister stated that police forces have been deployed in the seven localities of Khartoum, and that the operational rate of stations and sections has reached 91%, according to field visits and official statistics. He noted that 19 stations are operational in Khartoum Locality out of a total of 21, and 14 stations are operational in East Nile Locality. He also noted that 10 stations are operational in Bahri Locality, 10 stations in Omdurman Locality out of a total of 14, and nine stations in Ombada Locality out of a total of 11. He also noted that all stations in Karari and Jebel Awliya Localities are operational at 100% capacity.
The Minister of Interior explained that there are some militia pockets in the areas west and south of Omdurman that will be dealt with and eliminated soon. He confirmed that the Facilities Security Corporation has moved to Khartoum due to the urgent need to secure government headquarters and diplomatic missions. He noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the diplomatic missions' visit to Khartoum to inspect their headquarters and ensure their safety in preparation for their return. Sayreen added that during their visit to Khartoum, they observed the extent of the damage to numerous government institutions and facilities, particularly police facilities. He pointed out that the greatest damage occurred at the Civil Defense Directorate, whose warehouses were deliberately burned. He also noted that the Omar Sawi Complex, which also suffered fires on the western and eastern sides, also suffered damage. The Minister stated that the Rabat University building, the Police College, and the Customs and Container Corporation were also damaged.
The Minister stated that the visit achieved its objectives and that he was accompanied by police commanders and directors. It included visits to the Prisons Authority, the Ministry of Interior headquarters, Kober Prison, the Civil Defense, Customs, Wildlife, and the State Police Headquarters.
The Minister of Interior noted that the visit lasted four days and witnessed the first meeting of the Khartoum State Security Coordination Committee at the state headquarters since the outbreak of the Dignity War.
The Minister of Interior explained that the international community is seeking to exploit the issue of the civilian protection mechanism and that the Ministry of Interior is seeking to fill this gap, noting that they have taken practical steps towards this matter and that they are committed to the Geneva Convention, but the militia has not adhered to the agreement, pointing out that activating the mechanism closes the door to foreign interference.
