Al-Burhan meets Director General of African Affairs at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office
President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, met on Wednesday with the Director General of African Affairs at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Ms. Harriet Matthews, in the presence of the UK Special Envoy to Sudan, Mr. Richard Crowder.
The Director of European and American Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Nour El-Daim Abdel-Gadir, said in a press statement, that the meeting touched on the overall developments in the country and the Sudanese government's vision to achieve peace and stability and end the war, and the path of civil democratic transformation.
Ambassador Abdel-Gadir pointed out that TSC President underscored the Sudanese government's determination to achieve civil democratic transformation and achieve national consensus, in addition to its readiness to provide all necessary facilities to deliver humanitarian aid to those who are in need.
The Director of European and American Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that TSC President praised Britain's position in support of Sudan's sovereignty and the unity of its lands and territory, and its rejection of announcing the formation of a parallel government in Sudan, which threatens the security and unity of Sudan.
Ambassador Abdel-Gadir said that the British side was briefed on the Sudanese government's efforts to achieve peace and its vision regarding the conference scheduled to be held in London on Sudan's issues and the importance of expanding the scope of Sudanese participation in it.
Ambassador Abdel-Gadir expressed his appreciation to the British government for condemning the crimes and violations committed by the terrorist militia against citizens and civilian objects, the destruction of the Sudanese state's infrastructure, ethnic cleansing and genocide, calling for the importance of condemning the countries and parties supporting and backing the terrorist militia.
The Director of the Department of European and American Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added, "We seek a positive role for Britain in supporting Sudan's issues and developing dialogue between the two countries according to the joint interests and strengthening bilateral relations."
For her part, Ms. Harriet Matthews affirmed her country's support for peace in Sudan. "The United Kingdom will play an important role in ensuring any path towards peace," she said, expressing her deep concern about the formation of a parallel government that supports the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF), adding that "If we want lasting peace in Sudan, this requires the unity and integrity of Sudanese territory."
She pointed out that the meeting was positive and addressed efforts to create peaceful conditions to end the war, and her country's role in hosting the international community in London to discuss creating a space for peace in Sudan to end the war.
The meeting also addressed providing and bringing in humanitarian and necessary needs for the Sudanese through the crossings, noting that the United Kingdom will play an important role in providing aid to those in need, praising the continued entry of humanitarian aid through the Adre crossing.
The British official added, "I have heard many Sudanese who are suffering in this context due to this conflict," expressing her concern and condemnation of the rebellious Rapid Support Forces' attacks on displaced persons and refugee camps and civilian infrastructure, stressing the importance of respecting and implementing the Jeddah outcomes to protect civilians.
