President Al-Burhan meets Egyptian Foreign Minister
President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, met on Wednesday with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aati, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ali Youssef.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs said, in a press statement, that the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs conveyed to TSC President the greetings and congratulations of his brother, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, and the Egyptian people on the victories achieved by the armed forces and the liberation of the city of Wad Madani and its return to the bosom of the homeland, noting that the meeting touched on the overall situation in addition to discussing ways to foster and develop cooperation relations between the two countries.
Dr. Ali Youssef indicated that the meeting touched on Egypt's role in supporting Sudan and efforts to achieve peace, reconstruction and rehabilitation, describing his Egyptian counterpart's visit to Sudan as successful and will have its consequences.
He explained that he held talks with his Egyptian counterpart during which several files, bilateral relations, regional and international issues of common interest were discussed, pointing to the convergence of viewpoints on all the topics raised.
Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out that the talks addressed the challenges facing the Sudanese in Egypt. He said, "Most of these issues have been addressed," indicating that Egypt renewed its welcome to the sons and daughters of Sudan residing in its country and granted them all the necessary facilities and entry visas to Egypt.
Dr. Ali Youssef added that it was agreed to activate the joint mechanisms and particularly those of dialogue and consultation between the foreign ministries of the two countries, pointing out that a meeting will be held in this regard during the coming month, in addition to holding the quadripartite meeting between the foreign and irrigation ministers of the two countries during the coming month.
Dr. Ali Youssef pointed out that it was agreed to activate the joint ministerial committees, in addition to holding several meetings between the two countries that frame the advancement and strengthening of bilateral relations in various fields.
For his part, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Immigration, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aati, said that he conveyed a message from the Egyptian President to his brother, President Abdel-Fatah Al-Burhan, on the bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to consolidate them, and issues of joint interest.
He added that the message stressed Egypt's keenness to continue supporting the Sudanese state and its institutions to preserve its unity and support the brothers in Sudan, referring to Egypt's hosting of the Sudanese and providing them with all possible forms of care.
The Egyptian minister explained that his visit to Sudan came at the behest of His Excellency the Egyptian President Sisi on the necessity of intensifying communication with the brothers in Sudan and providing all forms of political support to preserve the unity, stability and territorial integrity of Sudan. He said, “My meeting with the President of the Sovereignty Council was important and positive, during which I conveyed the greetings and appreciation of His Excellency President Sisi to his brother Al-Burhan, and his wishes for Sudan to achieve further development, growth and stability.”
Abdel-Aati added that the meeting touched on ways to develop bilateral relations and the positive developments they are witnessing, besides increasing the pace of political consultations between the two countries. The meeting also addressed the development of trade relations and economic cooperation, especially after the first forum for businesspersons in the two countries, which was recently held in Cairo to support economic cooperation between the private sector in the two countries.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister stated that the meeting discussed the ongoing arrangements for holding the second forum, which will be held in Sudan after the holy month of Ramadan, to maintain the pace of periodic meetings between the private sectors and at the official level between the ministers of the economic sector to develop areas of joint cooperation.
He added, "I conveyed to President of the Sovereignty Council all aspects of care provided by Egypt to the Sudanese brothers inside Egyptian territory, noting that President Al-Burhan expressed his appreciation for Egypt's role under the leadership of President Sisi in supporting Sudan in regional and international forums, including within the African Union.
He explained that President Al-Burhan expressed his deep appreciation to the Egyptian leadership for hosting the Sudanese and creating the appropriate climate for holding the Sudanese certificate exams for more than (28,000) students inside Egypt, noting the interest of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in the future of Sudanese students.
He added that the meeting discussed the overall situation in Sudan and the challenges facing the region and the tensions and conflicts it is witnessing, in addition to the situation in the Horn of Africa and the water issue for the two countries, noting that there is a convergence in positions on the importance of preserving water rights and working to reach a binding legal agreement regarding the operation of the Ethiopian dam and the continuation of full coordination between the two brotherly countries in all regional and international forums regarding the water issue and continuing to support the Nile Basin Initiative. Considering that the two countries are members of the important group whose work is managed based on the principle of consensus.
He clarified that the meeting discussed ways to support, rebuild and rehabilitate Sudan, hoping to intensify Egyptian, regional and international efforts to reach a ceasefire and ensure the access of all aid to all regions of Sudan, and said, "We appreciate the positive steps taken by the Sovereignty Council to facilitate humanitarian aid." He said, "We hope that after reaching a ceasefire and running a comprehensive political process, this will coincide with holding an international conference with broad international and Arab participation for reconstruction and rehabilitation," stressing Egypt's readiness to host this conference. So that Sudan returns to its prominent regional role within the African Union, stressing that "Egypt will not hesitate to make every possible effort to work on resuming Sudan's activities within the African Union and correcting the decision that was taken based on unrealistic circumstances. It is necessary to work on correcting the matter and returning Sudan to its role as a founding state of the Organization of African Unity.
His Excellency noted that he held talks with the Vice President of the Sovereignty Council and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, which dealt with bilateral relations, activating the frameworks of political consultation between the two countries, issues of interest to the two countries in the economic, commercial and service aspects, files of common interest, challenges facing the region, and everything related to the concerns and interests of the two brotherly countries, which come within the framework of consultation to advance and strengthen the distinguished relations of cooperation between Sudan and Egypt.
