Foreign Minister: Sudan Stands with Arab States against Attacks, Warns of a Widening Conflict in the Region
Foreign Minister12

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salim headed Sudan’s delegation to the ministerial-level meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States, held on Sunday via videoconference to discuss the latest developments in the region. In his address to the meeting, the minister expressed Sudan’s condemnation of the Iranian attacks that targeted a number of Arab states, affirming Sudan’s firm rejection of attacks on civilian objects and infrastructure, as they pose a direct threat to the lives of civilians and constitute a clear violation of established rules of international law.
The minister noted that several countries have made significant efforts in recent years to spare the region further escalation, commending in this regard the role played by the Sultanate of Oman in bringing viewpoints closer together. He also praised the efforts of a number of Arab states in this context, foremost among them the Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Qatar.
The Foreign Minister affirmed Sudan’s full solidarity with the Arab states that were targeted by these attacks, stressing Sudan’s support for any legitimate measures taken by those states to protect their sovereignty and safeguard the integrity of their territories, while reiterating that Arab national security is indivisible. He also commended the measured and balanced response of Arab leaders, which adhered to international principles and norms and was characterized by wisdom and restraint, preventing the region from sliding into a cycle of violence.
The minister called on influential actors in the international community to intensify their efforts to halt escalatory actions in the region and help create the conditions necessary for a return to the negotiating table, adopting dialogue as the means to address differences and spare the region further tensions. He further renewed Sudan’s support for Lebanon in confronting the challenges it faces, expressing Sudan’s deep concern over the rapidly evolving developments in the region and warning of the risks of the conflict widening and extending to other areas. He noted that such developments could have serious repercussions for regional and international peace and security, as well as for the safety of international maritime routes and the stability of global energy supplies.
