Sudan Strongly Condemns Uganda’s Reception of Rebel Leader Hamdan Dagalo

In a statement issued today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation strongly condemned the Ugandan government’s reception in Kampala of the rebel Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the terrorist militia.
The statement also denounced the meeting between him and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, describing it as an unprecedented step that offends humanity as a whole before harming the Sudanese people, while disregarding the lives of innocent citizens killed in the ongoing war due to Dagalo’s and his militia’s actions since the conflict began. The celebratory nature of his reception, the statement added, mocks the feelings of those whose sanctities were violated and whose property was stolen by the Dagalo gang and its leader.
The statement further noted, “The atrocities committed by this terrorist militia have been documented by the international community and condemned by regional organizations to which Uganda belongs, such as the African Union and IGAD. Consequently, Uganda’s action shows disregard for human reason and fails to consider the psychological harm inflicted on the Sudanese citizen. It also flagrantly violates laws followed by member states of regional and international organizations, which prohibit supporting forces that rebel against a legally recognized government.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “The Government of Sudan recognizes that Uganda has sovereign rights to receive whomever it wishes on its territory and to define its bilateral relations according to its interests. From this perspective, the Sudanese government expresses deep concern if this step reflects a new policy by Uganda toward Sudan, by hosting a rebel who has shed the blood of the Sudanese people, violated their sanctities, and committed all forms of crimes, including genocide, ethnically motivated killings, and other grave violations.”
The statement continued, “Out of concern for bilateral relations and adherence to the policy of good-neighborliness and non-interference in internal affairs, the Government of Sudan urges Uganda to distance itself from this criminal, ensure that its name is not linked to Dagalo’s terrorist record, and prevent him from using Ugandan territory—land or air—as a base to continue his campaign of mass killings.”
