Foreign Minister Meets Indian Prime Minister
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Muhy-Eddin Salim met on Saturday with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi.
The Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings of the Prime Minister of Sudan to his Indian counterpart and expressed Sudan’s pride in its historical relations with India. He also conveyed the appreciation of the Sudanese government and people for the support provided by India to the Sudanese people during the current difficult circumstances.
The Minister briefed the Indian Prime Minister on developments in Sudan, including the sacrifices and victories of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Sudanese people against the rebellion, the Government of Hope’s peace initiative, and the return of the capital, Khartoum, along with other liberated areas. He affirmed Sudan’s aspiration to build a strategic partnership with India during the reconstruction phase by activating bilateral cooperation mechanisms between the two foreign ministries, in line with the outcomes of his meeting with India’s Minister of External Affairs the previous day. He expressed hope that bilateral efforts and consultations would culminate in exchanges of visits at senior-official level across various sectors.
For his part, Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested the Foreign Minister to convey his greetings to his Sudanese counterpart and affirmed India’s readiness to cooperate with Sudan in all fields. He underscored India’s interest in working with partners and friends in Africa to help achieve the development aspirations of Global South countries, reaffirmed India’s desire to maintain a presence in Sudan, and confirmed that diplomatic channels between the two countries remain open to activate cooperation across various sectors between the two friendly countries and peoples.
The meeting took place during the Foreign Minister’s visit to New Delhi to participate in the Arab–Indian Ministerial Meeting, organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in cooperation with India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
