Prime Minister Meets UN Resident Coordinator, Affirms Government’s Commitment to Achieving Peace and Ending Insurgency
Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris received on Monday, at his office, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan, Ms. Denise Brown, upon her request.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister provided an extensive briefing on developments in the country, outlining the government’s priorities and its vision for achieving peace and restoring stability across all parts of Sudan. For her part, Ms. Denise Brown presented the United Nations’ action plan in Sudan for the upcoming phase, affirming the United Nations’ keenness to strengthen its efforts to support the Sudanese people and alleviate the suffering of those affected by the war. She also provided an update on her field visits to the states of Khartoum and Darfur, which included the areas of Tawila, Zalingei, Nertiti, and Zamzam camp.
The Prime Minister praised the humanitarian role played by UN agencies in Sudan, stressing the government’s commitment to facilitating their work and enabling them to carry out their humanitarian missions in all states. He emphasized the Sudanese government’s determination to move forward toward achieving peace and ending the insurgency in a manner that safeguards the dignity and sovereignty of Sudan, in line with the national vision and the roadmap that the government has publicly presented.
