Higher Committee for Renaissance Dam Reviews Preparations for SC Meeting

Khartoum, July 5 (SUNA) – The Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk, Monday chaired at the Council of Ministers a meeting of the higher committee for the Renaissance Dam and mourned at the outset of the meeting the late renowned poet, Mohamed Taha Al-Gadal and the story-writer and journalist Eissa Al-Hillo. The Committee reviewed Sudan’s preparations for the Security Council session assigned to discussing the issue of the Renaissance Dam on Thursday, July 8. The meeting affirmed the importance of intensifying contacts with the concerned countries, led by Tunisia, Kenya and Niger, in addition to France, which chaired the Security Council sessions in current July. The meeting took notice of the results of the contacts made by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to bring close the views of the three parties "Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia" and welcomed the UAE efforts, expressing Sudan's readiness to deal positively with these efforts. The meeting was also briefed on the developments relating to construction of the Renaissance Dam and its impact on the second filling, which has become a fait accompli, stressing the importance of continuing the precautionary measures to reduce the negative effects of the second filling process, while continuing diplomatic efforts to reach a binding legal agreement on the filling and operation of the Renaissance Dam.The committee decided to hold its next meeting at the site of the Rosseires Dam.
