Volker: Current Political Process in Sudan is Purely Sudanese

 Volker

The special envoy of the United Nations Secretary General and Head of the UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Perthes, affirmed that the political process taking place now in Sudan is a purely Sudanese - Sudanese process and that the tripartite mechanism assumes the role of facilitation and assistance for reaching a solution that the Sudanese agree on. In a statement to SUNA, Volker pointed out that this political process would lead to a consensual solution between the Sudanese parties, promising that the next stage will bring good to the country, especially since the crisis has extended for more than a year. Volker called on the political parties that reject the framework agreement to participate in the political process because in the end it is a national process that leads to a national solution. He indicate that there are objections to the framework agreement, a matter which requires listening to them, but he added, "If you want to reach a better final agreement, you must participate in the discussions”. He renewed his respect for all political positions, pointing out that the majority of the political forces, the military component, and the international and regional community are all behind this political process.
Regarding the guarantees of the framework agreement, Volker stated that there is an issue that will be discussed in one of the workshops regarding those guarantees.
