Port Sudan, November 16 (SUNA) - The activities of the scientific workshop on industrial complexes based on sodium chloride (salt) is due to be held under the slogan (Toward Industrial Development for the Renaissance of the Red Sea State and the Fortification of Salt with Iodine), with the initiative of the Sudanese International Expert in International Organizations and the Secretary-General for External Communication and Coordination of Competencies in the Sultanate of Oman, Professor Izz al-Din Sharif Hussein With the participation of representatives from the Ministries of Health and Industry and the United Nations organizations represented by the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the World Food Program (WFP) and the International Network of Iodine. The two-day workshop will discuss a number of working papers and dimensions on the hidden and historical facts of sodium chloride and its role in industrial development and public health. It also discusses the status of ore sodium chloride in Sudan, industrialization between modernization and imitation and the gap in the domestic and global market. Prof. Al-Sharif explained, in a press statement, that the workshop was a national initiative aimed at establishing industrial complexes based on sodium chloride and enhancing its iodized production to promote community health, adding that the workshop contributes to laying out a future vision for raw materials and laying foundations for partnerships between the public and private sectors to benefit from the modern methods to support the national economy. The workshop will discuss the most important working papers that are to be presented by the international organizations on the position of fortifying iodine in salt to combat and prevent iodine deficiency diseases and disorders, and to develop a vision to increase production, quality control and reach the settlement areas of these disorders.
