Tauchen im Sudan

- Spiegel Online- Wie ein Raumschiff liegt die Forschungsstation auf dem Meeresgrund. Von Metallstreben hängen Weichkorallen wie Weintrauben. Daneben ein Hangar, der nur darauf zu warten scheint, das U-Boot wieder in Empfang zu nehmen, mit dem die Insassen gerade die Umgebung erkunden. Selbst der Name wirkt futuristisch: Precontinent II.
Als der französische Meeresforscher Jacques-Yves Cousteau sein Projekt 1963 der Öffentlichkeit vorstellte, wirkten auch seine Pläne wie aus der Zukunft. Fünf Menschen aus seinem Team sollten in dem seesternförmigen Gebäude 30 Tage lang leben, um die Auswirkungen des Sättigungstauchens zu erforschen und neue Erkenntnisse über die Flora und Fauna des Roten Meeres zu erlangen. Selbst einen Papagei hatten sie dabei: "Claude" sollte frühzeitig Alarm schlagen, wenn das Atemgas in den Räumen einen kritischen Zustand erreichte. ..more
