Khartoum, Feb.16 (SU NA) – The AU Peace and Security Council held, Tuesday, virtual meeting on the development of situations in Sudan. Sudan delegation chaired by Ambassador, Dr. Khaled Mohammed Farah, presenting Sudan’s statement has congratulated the new AU Peace and Security Commissioner on his selection for the post. Sudan statement tackled the developments in political and economic arenas including signing of peace Agreement in Juba and the beginning of the implementation of its articles, the completion of the structures of the transitional authority that includes the peace partners. The statement also, reviewed the transition process from peace-keeping phase to peace building , assuming of UNITAMS its assignments in the country and the economic developments represented in the revocation of Sudan’s name from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism. It urged the AU to continue its efforts for mobilization of political , economic and financial support to Sudan to enable the country use its resources to realize the targeted economic reforms. The statement affirmed Sudan’s firm position towards the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam for reaching biding legal and comprehensive agreement acceptable to all the concerned parties. On the situations on the Eastern borders, the statement confirmed that Sudan redeployed its armed forces inside the Sudanese territories, welcoming the expected visit to Sudan by the AU Peace and Security Council members to meet the Sudanese officials and inspect the situation by themselves. The Chairman and members of the AU Peace and Security Council affirmed the positive developments in the country, assuring their support to all the steps leading to a successful transition process.
