Trade Minister: Curbing of luxury goods’ imports

Khartoum, Feb. 21 (SUNA) - Minister of Trade Ali Gedo Adam has announced hiking rates of customs duties to limit importation of luxury goods while adhering to prior international agreements, and discussing a mechanism to ensure entry of exports’ revenues into the Central Bank of Sudan.This came in a press conference held today at the premises of the Council of Ministers, in which the government announced a package of economic measures, the most important of which was the unification of the exchange rate. He added, in relation to the expected inflationary effects, that the Ministry of Trade has taken measures to mitigate the negative effects on citizens, the most important of which is the provision of food commodities through “My Commodity Program” in addition to activating cooperatives.
