Arabi Informs US Embassy Delegation on Situation in North Darfur

Al-Fasher, Feb. 1 (SUNA) – The Wali (governor) of North Darfur State, Mohamed Hassan Arabi, received in his office the Deputy Director of the Political and Cultural Department at the United States Embassy to Khartoum, who arrived Monday in Al-Fasher at the head of the embassy’s delegation. Arabi has acquainted the delegation on the situation in the state after the signing of the Juba peace agreement and exit of the UNAMID from Darfur. He gave a detailed briefing on the arrangements made by the government for replacing the forces in order to secure the sites and headquarters vacated by the UNAMI and the ways to benefit from them in the future. Arabi also touched on the measures related to implementing the peace agreement which stipulated the formation of a joint national force to protect civilians, adding that these forces have already begun to be deployed in Darfur region. The official of the American Embassy affirmed their keenness to cooperate with the government in order to support the peace building phase and the issues of development and the political transition in the country.
