Launch of Corn Harvest at the Gezira Scheme

On Tuesday, Ibrahim Mustafa, Governor of the Gezira Scheme, inaugurated the harvest of corn seed fields at the Nour Al-Huda office in the central sector of the Gezira Scheme.
The governor expressed optimism for high yields exceeding 20 bags per feddan, attributing this success to the continuous support from the country’s top leadership for the Gezira Scheme, including the provision of improved seeds and production inputs. He also highlighted the commitment of producers to technical packages and their swift return to the fields following the state’s clearance of the area from the notorious Daqlo family militia. He noted that the total area under corn and summer crops in the Gezira Scheme exceeds 350,000 feddans.
The governor also pointed out that 31,000 feddans have been planted with cotton out of a targeted 400,000 feddans, due to the lack of seeds and production inputs, while reaffirming the determination to expand cotton cultivation in the next season.
Additionally, Mustafa revealed rapid progress toward planting 400,000 feddans of wheat in the current winter season, financed by the Ministry of Finance through the Agricultural Bank, urging farmers to visit the bank to collect wheat production inputs.
Meanwhile, Engineer Mohamed Osman, Director of Irrigation at the Gezira Scheme, announced the completion of irrigation delivery and outlined a comprehensive plan to provide the necessary irrigation for winter crops. This includes deploying more than 70 machines for canal maintenance and supplying fuel, along with preparations to further develop irrigation infrastructure in the upcoming phase.
Farmer Abdel-Baqi Ahmed from the Nour Al-Huda office praised the project management’s efforts in meeting the needs of summer crop cultivation, noting that 550–600 feddans of corn have been planted at the office. He emphasized that these efforts strengthen local seed production initiatives and confirmed that the fields are fully prepared for harvest.
