The Minister of Finance Holds a Fruitful Meeting with the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, and Caucasus Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, Sudan's Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, announced that the Sudanese delegation participating in the annual joint meetings of Arab financial institutions held a fruitful discussion today with Mr. Jihad Azour, Director of the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, and Caucasus Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In a Facebook post, Dr. Ibrahim highlighted that the meeting focused on enhancing the IMF's technical support for Sudan, particularly in accelerating the digital transformation of key financial institutions, including the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Sudan, and the Central Bureau of Statistics. These efforts aim to improve efficiency, strengthen transparency, and promote better governance. He further stated, “We also discussed avenues for Sudan to resume its participation in the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative for debt relief. This is considered a pivotal step in Sudan's economic reform journey and in alleviating external debt burdens. These discussions will continue during the upcoming IMF meetings in Washington, D.C., at the end of this month."
