Prime Minister receives Chairperson of AU Commission

Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk

Khartoum, June 13 (SUNA) – Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk received at his office here today Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat, in the presence of AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security Bankole Adeoy , senior advisor of Chairperson of the AU Commission Mohamed El Hacen Lebatt and head of AU office in Khartoum Ambassador Mohamed Belaiche. The meeting reviewed developments in Sudan pertinent to the democratic transition process, where the Prime Minister presented a comprehensive briefing on the progress that has been realized till now in all fields, especially pertinent to issues of peace, development and the economy. Dr. Hamdouk also explained the stance of the Sudan pertinent to the issue of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. The Prime Minister conveyed to the delegation of the African Union that Sudan affirms that the issue of the Renaissance Dam should be within a comprehensive framework of cooperation and integration between the three countries, and that Sudan’s position is summed up in the need to reach a binding legal agreement on the filling and operation of the Renaissance Dam so that Sudan can organize its development projects and avoid damages that may result from the absence of prior detailed information on the filling and operation issues. For his part, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission affirmed the African Union's support for Sudan for the success of the transitional phase, affirming their follow-up to the ongoing negotiations on the Renaissance Dam. In this regard, he offered the assistance of the African Union Commission in the framework of the efforts led by the current President of the African Union, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi.
